In the event that you need to visit the United States as a non-immigrant, here are the requirements for obtaining a visa.
First of all before applying, confirm whether or not you need to apply for a visa.
If you need to apply for a nonimmigrant visa, please follow the steps below.
How to Apply for a Nonimmigrant Visa
Step 1
For nonimmigrant visa applicants:
Determine your visa type by reading Common Nonimmigrant Visas. Each type of visa explains the qualifications and application elements. Choose the type of visa that applies to your situation.
Also be sure to check out the Visa Waiver Program. If your country participates in the Visa Waiver Program, you do not need to apply for a visa if you are traveling for business or pleasure and will only be staying in the United States for 90 days or less.
2nd step
Once you have determined the correct type of visa, you must pay the visa fee. The visa fees page lists visa types and the corresponding visa fees in US dollars and local currency.
To pay your visa fees, read the Banking and payment options page. This page explains how to pay your visa fees. You must keep your receipt number to book your visa appointment.
Step 3
The next step is to complete the DS-160 form. Be sure to carefully read the guidelines for completing Form DS-160. All information must be correct and accurate. Once the form is submitted, you cannot make any further changes. If you need help, please consult an immigration lawyer or translator. The call center cannot help you complete your DS-160. You will need your DS-160 number to book your appointment.
Step 4
You are almost ready to schedule your visa appointment!
Now you need to create a profile in our system. Follow this link and click New User.
Fill in all fields and create a password. Once in the system, you will see your dashboard.
On the left side, click Schedule an appointment.
This will initiate the appointment booking process. For each programmed candidate, you will need:
The applicant’s passport number
The receipt number of the receipt from GT Bank. (Click here if you need help finding this number.)
The applicant’s ten (10) digit barcode number from the DS-160 confirmation page
As you go through the process, you will be able to select your visa type, enter personal details, add dependents, select where your documents will be delivered, confirm visa payment and finally, schedule your appointment.
Step 5
Meet at the U.S. Embassy on the date and time of your visa interview. Be sure to consult the Schedule my appointment page to obtain the necessary documentation for your appointment.
Step 6
If your visa is approved, the visa will be sent to the document drop-off location you selected when booking your appointment.
