Indian Embassy in China asks students returning to colleges to register


As Beijing began issuing visas to Indian students stranded at home due to the COVID travel ban as they began to gradually return to join their colleges in China, the Indian Embassy asked them for the October 21 to register with the mission to ensure timely facilitation of their consular needs.

According to details, more than 23,000 Indian students, mostly studying medicine, are believed to be stranded at home due to COVID visa restrictions.

Chinese authorities have recently started issuing visas to students who obtain permits from their Chinese colleges and universities to resume their studies.

Despite struggling to travel to China, the two countries have yet to resume flights. Reports indicate that more than 100 students have returned by traveling through third country flight routes or through Hong Kong.

Now, the Indian Embassy, ​​in its latest advisory, has urged returning students to register with the mission.

“With concerted efforts, Indian medical students have started returning to mainland China to join their respective universities. In order to ensure the timely fulfillment of their consular needs, Indian students in China are requested to complete the registration form,” the notice posted on the embassy’s website reads.

They can register with the Indian embassy or Indian consulates in Shanghai or Guangzhou, he said. He also provided the names of those responsible and their contact details.

“All Indian students are encouraged to register so that the Embassy/Consulates can contact them for any facilitation at the earliest,” he said.

“Students who have not yet returned to China can complete ‘the form after reaching China only,'” he added.
