Indian embassy in Kyiv urges nationals to leave as tensions rise


Amid growing tensions over the possibility of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv has ordered its citizens to leave the country as soon as possible. According to the latest notice issued by the Indian Embassy in Ukraine on Sunday, February 20, non-essential citizens, especially students, have been advised to temporarily leave Kyiv amid the Russian- Ukrainian in progress.

“Given the uncertainties of the current situation in Ukraine, Indian nationals in Ukraine, especially students whose stay is not essential, may consider leaving temporarily. Indian nationals are also advised to avoid all non-essential travel. essential to and within Ukraine,” the Indian Embassy in Ukraine said in its notice.

“The available commercial flights and charter flights can be used for travel, for an orderly and speedy departure. Indian students are advised to also contact the respective contracting students for updates on charter flights, and continue to follow the Embassy on Facebook, the website and Twitter for any updates,” he added.

This is notably the second such notice issued by the Indian Embassy in Ukraine last week. Earlier on February 15, the embassy had issued similar instructions. On January 26, the Indian Embassy in Kyiv asked its citizens residing in Ukraine to register in order to disseminate information quickly.

“With the intention of effectively coordinating with Indian citizens and expeditiously disseminating information, the Embassy of India in Kyiv is requesting all Indian citizens, including students currently located in Ukrainian territory, to complete the form Students currently pursuing online education from India are advised NOT to complete the form,” the Indian Embassy said in a statement.

India advises citizens to keep calm

Earlier on Friday, February 18, answering some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) from Indian citizens, the Embassy advised its citizen to keep calm. “It is important to maintain calm and not to cause panic. Those wishing to return to India are advised to book available commercial air tickets. The Ministry of External Affairs is also in talks with the Ministry of Aviation civilian and various airlines to expand flights between India and Ukraine,” the embassy said.

The embassy further stressed that tickets should be purchased only from verified and reliable sources. “It is also advisable to continue monitoring the Twitter and Facebook page and the Embassy website for updates on this matter. Do not pass on unverified news and beware of potential scams.”

As to whether visa and consular services are functional, the embassy said it continues to operate as normal to provide all services to Indian nationals in Ukraine.
