Indian wrestlers to miss U-23 World Championship in Spain after visas denied

New Delhi

The Indian wrestlers were all set to compete in the U23 World Championship, but suspected of not leaving the territory before visas expired, the Spanish Embassy rejected their participation in the competition.

The Indian Wrestling Federation had submitted the visa applications of all players and coaches to the Spanish Embassy on October 4, 2022, but the Spanish Embassy rejected the visa applications of all players and coaches on October 17 October 2022.

This is the first time in the history of Indian wrestling that Indian players have been denied visas for such an important tournament.

“The Indian Wrestling Federation will complain in writing to the World Wrestling Federation and insist on the banning of any significant competition in Spain,” read a statement from the Indian Wrestling Federation.

According to reports, the WFI had chosen a 30-member squad for the championship, which kicked off on Monday, but only nine were granted visas.
