Pakistani cyclists to compete in Asian competition after visas issued by Indian Embassy

Moazzam Khan Khair believes there is a need to put in place a mechanism where visa applications from Pakistani athletes and officials invited for regional or international sporting events in India

Seven members of the Pakistan Cycling Team will compete in the Asian Elite and Junior Cycling Championships after securing their visas issued by the Indian Embassy in Islamabad.

“Our team, consisting of five cyclists and two officials, left via Wagah border for the championships yesterday,” said Pakistan Cycling Federation General Secretary Moazzam Khan Khair. PTI.

He said that only one PCF official who was to accompany the delegation had not obtained a visa.

“The good thing is that the rest of our requests have all been accepted and processed,” he said.

The championships kicked off in New Delhi on Saturday with five Pakistani cyclists taking part in the events from June 19.

The Asian meet, an Olympic qualifier, is the first major post-pandemic cycling event and plenty of ranking points will be up for grabs during the event.

Khair believes that there is a need for a mechanism to expedite the processing of visa applications for Pakistani athletes and officials invited to regional or international sporting events in India.

There have been instances in the past where Pakistani athletes have been denied visas for various reasons for international events in India due to the strained political and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
