Protect yourself against fraud – U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Mexico


The U.S. Embassy in Mexico has received reports that people outside of Applicant Service Centers (ASCs) are informing visa applicants that their visa payments have expired and are offering to “work it out” and extend validity in exchange for additional fees.

We remind you that the United States Department of State has extended the validity of visa payments until September 30, 2023. All applicants who have not been able to book a visa appointment because routine consular operations have been suspended for the COVID-19 pandemic can book and/or attend a visa appointment with fees already paid.

To protect against fraud, we recommend the following:

  • Visit our official websites for updated information:
  • Do not approach people outside the CSA who do not fully identify themselves as CSA staff.
  • Do not provide personal information to visa fixers or third parties. They can use your information without your permission.
  • Do not pay any additional fees for your visa application. Avoid contacting people who say “can help you if you pay them”. Our staff within the ASC will notify you if there is a problem with your visa application.
