Beijing:

As Indian students stranded at home due to the COVID-related travel ban have started gradually returning to join their colleges in China after Beijing started issuing visas, the Indian Embassy here has requested on Friday to register with the mission to ensure prompt facilitation of their consular needs.

More than 23,000 Indian students, mostly studying medicine, are believed to be stranded at home due to COVID visa restrictions.

China has started issuing visas to students who obtain permits from their Chinese colleges and universities to resume their studies.

But they are struggling to travel to China as the two countries have yet to resume flights.

According to reports, more than 100 students have returned traveling by flight routes to third countries or via Hong Kong.

The Indian Embassy in its latest notice (https://www.eoibeijing.gov.in/eoibejing_listview/MTE0OA) urged returning students to register with the mission.

“With concerted efforts, Indian medical students have started returning to mainland China to join their respective universities. In order to ensure prompt facilitation of their consular needs, Indian students in China are requested to complete the registration form,” the notice posted on the embassy’s website reads.

They can register with the Indian embassy or Indian consulates in Shanghai or Guangzhou, he said.

He also provided the names of those responsible and their contact details.

“All Indian students are encouraged to register so that the Embassy/Consulates can contact them for any facilitation at the earliest,” he said.

“Students who have not yet returned to China can complete ‘the form after reaching China only,'” he added.
