The federal government led by Muhammadu Buhari has said Nigerians fleeing the crisis in Ukraine do not need visas to cross borders into Romania and Hungary.
Naija News reports that this was announced in a statement by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, Gabriel Adoudar.
He said the Nigerian government has also made accommodation and food arrangements pending the evacuation.
“The Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs has spoken with his counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, about this unsavory development and both are working to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, including by deploying the International Organization for border migration to ensure easier access for all Nigerians and other nationals“, we read in the press release.
“For now, it is advisable to travel to the Hungarian border at Zahony and the Romanian borders at Suceava, Tulcea, Satu Mare County and Maramures as they have approved visa-free access for all Nigerians in from Ukraine and accommodation and food arrangements prior to evacuation..”
The ministry has urged parents, guardians and wards of Nigerians in Ukraine to remain calm as the Federal Government is working very hard to bring them all home safely.
“Similarly, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Budapest, Hungary, in a public travel advisory, stated that it wishes to inform Nigerian nationals arriving from Ukraine that the Government of Hungary has issued Executive Order 56/2022 (24.11), which allows third-country nationals with valid Ukrainian residence permits to enter Hungary on a temporary basis, without a Schengen visa.
“Thus, Nigerians arriving at the Hungarian-Ukrainian border can enter Hungary, either in transit to Nigeria or for temporary residence in the country.“, added the declarer.
He further stated that concerned Nigerian nationals seeking admission to Hungary are advised to have their travel documents (valid Nigerian passport and Ukrainian residence permit) with cash in Euros and to cooperate with border authorities. Hungarians.
